THE ARTIST
Simon Edery (1952–2005) was a Moroccan-born figurative painter whose artistic journey unfolded across France, Spain and Israel. He studied painting at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris and, from 1977 to 1979, was a resident of the Artistic Section of Casa de Velázquez in Madrid. His work was presented in Europe and abroad during the 1970s and early 1980s. In 1985, Edery moved to Israel, where he lived and worked until his death in 2005. Across paintings on canvas and wood, works on paper and the GENESIS series, he developed a distinctive, dreamlike visual language shaped by biblical narratives, harlequins, childhood memory, family relationships and the human figure.
