THE ARTIST
SIMON EDERY
Simon Edery’s artistic journey began in 1970, a period defined by the convergence of rigorous academic training and a profound sensitivity to the natural world. His early years were spent in the quietude of the British countryside, where the textures of the earth and the shifting light of the horizon first inspired a lifelong pursuit of form and color.
Throughout his career, Edery developed a distinctive style that blends the precision of modernist composition with the emotive depth of traditional oil painting. His work is characterized by meticulous detail and a sophisticated archival aesthetic, meticulously catalogued and preserved for future generations of art lovers and curators.

VISUAL LANGUAGE
Edery worked primarily in oil on canvas and oil on wood, alongside drawings and works on paper. Across different periods, he explored layered surfaces, rich texture and, in the GENESIS series, phosphorescent material that absorbs and releases light.
Biblical and spiritual imagery, childhood, family, generations, harlequins and theatrical figures recur throughout the archive. Human relationships remain central, often appearing between memory, symbolism and dream.
His figurative language moves between observation and imagination. Gesture, colour and atmosphere often carry as much meaning as narrative, creating compositions that shift from intimate and quiet to vivid, symbolic and dreamlike.
