THE GENESIS SERIES
LIGHT AS MATERIAL

In GENESIS, Simon Edery approached biblical creation through light itself. The series consists of 20 works painted in oil on wood and incorporates phosphorescent material that absorbs light and allows selected elements to emerge again in darkness.
The effect is not merely technical. Light and darkness become part of the subject of the work — turning creation, revelation and transformation into part of the viewing experience itself.
THE VIEWING EXPERIENCE
As the surrounding light changes, the works reveal a second visual state. In darkness, the phosphorescent passages remain visible, allowing selected forms to emerge from the painted surface and transforming the way the biblical scenes are perceived.
